North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers

This month we’re very much looking forward to the upcoming Transition to NET-ZERO in the North of England conference, an open forum organised jointly by the Durham Energy Institute and the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers. The meeting is chaired by our long-time co-worker Jon Gluyas (Director of the Durham Energy Institute, Ørsted/Ikon Professor of Geoenergy, Carbon Capture & Storage, and chairman of our sister spin-out company, GeoEnergy Durham). See the full conference programme here. Panel sessions include:

  • Geological Record of Climate and Extinctions
  • Geology for the Energy Transition
  • Materials for the Northern Energy Transition
  • What do we want from COP26 and how do we get it?
  • Role of Local Government
  • The 3MT Competition
  • Clean Energy & Manufacturing Solutions

Unsurprisingly, the conference is now an online event – but once Covid restrictions are eased and the current refurbishment is complete, if you are ever in the Newcastle area do take a trip to the fabulous, iconic Mining Institute building next to Central Station – it is an architectural pearl with unmatched character and charm, and houses an extraordinary library collection of coal mining literature.
